History of Trifari
In 1910, Gustavo Trifari and his uncle founded "Trifari and Trifari." A few years later, after Gustavo's Uncle left, the company name changed "Trifari." Leo Krussman started working for Trifari in 1917 and Carl Fishel started with Trifari in 1925 and the company became "KTF." The company changed back to "Trifari."
In early 1930, Alfred Philippe became the head designer for Trifari. He worked as a designer of fine jewelry for companies such as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. In a few years, the company had great success, because of the designs he created during the Art Deco Period. He worked with less expensive materials which gave him the idea to create large flower pins and costume jewelry known as "fruit salad jewelry."
His designs resembles real fine jewelry with high quality rhinestones, fake pearls and other quality materials. For almost 4 decades, Alfred Philippe was a designer for Trifari until he retired in 1968. Today, a lot of the Trifari costume jewelry collected was designed by Phillipe.
History of Brooches (Pins)
Brooches (Pins) were created from the fibula, a decorative pin used by the Greeks and Romans. The Romans, Greeks and Celtics and other tribes throughout Europe used the fibula as a way to hold their cloaks closed.
Brooches (Pins) are fancy pins that over the centuries were made out of precious and semi-precious gemstones, as well as, other materials such as: rhinestones and faux pearls. Fashion icons like Coco Chanel (Chanel) made brooches (pins) more popular during the early 1920s on. Brooches (Pins) come in all shapes and styles including, animals, flowers and geometric designs. My favorite styles date back to the 1920s to the 1950s.
Brooches (Pins) are great gifts, because unlike other costume and fine jewelry there are not any size limitations like with a bracelet, necklace or ring.
